Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center Expands their Programs to Include Seniors

We are thrilled to add a senior arts program to our community. Our organization is dedicated to fostering a thriving arts community by providing resources, opportunities, and events for artists and art enthusiasts alike. 


Classes are for ages 55+.

Senior Arts - Meditative Doodling

RESCHEDULING DUE TO BAD WEATHER MON, JAN 19, 2026 2:00 – 3:30 pm

$10, materials and tools provided

Start with a blank page and a collection of colored pencils/markers. After a few warm-up exercises in colors, shapes, and emotions, we jump into a guided meditative doodle. There are no pre-set images; just shapes that organically appear. No artistic training is required -- we just doodle! Monica Harris, better known as the Doodling Dutchess, will be our guide in this relaxing session.

Senior Arts - Miniature Garden: Haven in a Tin

TUE, FEB 10, 2026 2:00 – 3:30 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

If you’re fascinated by miniature gardens, you won’t want to miss this one! Using natural materials and a hinged aluminum tin, we’ll create enchanted gardens filled with mushrooms, moss, bark, and perhaps a gnome or fairy. The only necessity is your imagination!

Senior Arts - Card Making Workshop

THUR, FEB 26, 2026 2:00 – 3:30 pm

$10, materials and tools provided

In this workshop, you will make three different all-occasion cards with support from expert card maker, Jill Blanchett. Even though no special skills are required, with Jill's quality supplies and guidance, you will become an accomplished card maker!

Senior Arts - Weaving from A to Z

THURs, MAR 3 & MAR 31, 2026 2:00 – 4:00 pm

$55, materials provided and loom provided

In this 2-part beginner's workshop, you will learn the basics, from preparing your desktop loom, to designing your piece, selecting colors and fibers and learning various stitches. Choose from one of our designs at the first session or opt to attend a bonus one hour design session prior to the first session to be scheduled with you after registration. Materials and loom will be provided that you can take home to work on between sessions. Weaving artist Jodie Gerard will be your instructor.

Senior Arts - Paint with Paper Collage Workshop

WED, MAR 11, 2026 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Discover the joy of “painting” without a brush! In this hands-on collage class, students will learn how to create expressive landscapes, florals, and still-life pieces using torn and cut paper. Through guided instruction, you’ll explore color, texture and composition to complete artwork that feels painterly. Whether you’re a seasoned artist looking to try something new or a beginner eager to tap into your creative side, this class offers a fun, approachable way to make vibrant, one-of-a-kind art. Artist Nancy Smith is your instructor.

Senior Arts - UV Resin Jewelry

CLOSED TUE, DEC 16, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

UV resin is a super easy way to create lovely pendants, charms and earrings. You will design several pieces using mica and inks, small dried flowers, glitter and other materials. Create a pendant and matching earrings, a bracelet or several charms. Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.


Senior Arts - Fresh Christmas Centerpiece

CLOSED MON, DEC 22, 1:30 – 3:00 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

Retired florist Mary Ann Kudary shows how to create a stunning centerpiece in this fun class. With a wide selection of fresh greens and flowers, pine cones and other holiday embellishments, you will have a stunning centerpiece to add to your holiday celebrations! Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.

Senior Arts - Intro to Weaving – From A to Z

TO BE RESCHEDULED WINTER SESSION THURS, OCT 9, OCT 23, NOV 13 1:00 – 2:30 pm

$60, materials and tools provided

Senior Arts - Intro to Liquid Water Color

CLOSED WED, SEPT 24, 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Join us for a Beginner’s Watercolor class and discover the magic of liquid watercolors! Learn fun and simple techniques, play with vibrant colors, and create your own beautiful artwork—even if you’ve never painted before.

Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.

Senior Arts - Intro to Herringbone Bead Jewelry

CLOSED TUES, SEPT 30, 3:00 – 4:30 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

Herringbone stitch in bead weaving results in a very flexible and fluid piece. This bracelet can be rolled on without the need for a clasp.  Wear one or ten or any number in between!  Join us for this introductory course to make 2 bracelets.  Needles, thread, and beads are provided along with instruction. No previous experience needed.  Instructor Bobbe Kelley. Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.

Senior Arts - Mixed Media Magic: Exploring Watercolor & Beyond

CLOSED WED, OCT 8, 1:00 – 2:30 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

Unleash your creativity and discover the endless possibilities of combining watercolor with other exciting art materials! This beginner friendly class introduces you to mixed media techniques with watercolor as the primary focus. We'll explore how to enhance your watercolor paintings by adding a variety of mediums such as ink, watercolor, pencils and more. Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.

Senior Arts - Papermaking

CLOSED TUES, OCT 28, 6:00 – 8:30 pm

$15, materials and tools provided

In this fun and fast-moving class, you will make a variety of papers from recycled paper, fibers, glitter, and botanicals. We will have botanicals on hand, but bring fresh or dried flowers and herbs from your garden if you have any! Your instructor is Syd Bastos. Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.

Senior Arts - Rolling Color Herringbone Jewelry

CLOSED TUES, NOV 18 & DEC 2, 3:00 – 5:00 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

This is a two-part class focused on the herringbone stitch in beadwork, which creates a flexible and fluid piece. You can use this stitch on its own or in combination with other techniques to make beautiful and fun jewelry. In this beginner’s class, you will create two bracelets that can be easily rolled onto your wrist without the need for a clasp.

Senior Arts - Fresh Thanksgiving Centerpiece

CLOSED MON, NOV 24, 1:30 – 3:00 pm

$20, materials and tools provided

Retired florist Mary Ann Kudary brings her humor, patience, fresh and dried flowers, ribbons, and an eclectic assortment of vessels to this popular class. You will walk out of the class with a beautiful centerpiece worthy of your Thanksgiving table or as a breathtaking hostess gift! Presented in partnership with South County Senior Center on Active Aging.
