An 8-session mixed media series hosted by Syd Bastos with guest artists along the way. We will focus on playful exploration and experimentation to spark your creativity. In each session, a new technique will be introduced with time to practice before creating a page or spread in your Art Journal. Techniques will include drawing, painting, writing, doodling, collage, gel printing and sketching. We will use acrylic and watercolor paint, alcohol and distressed inks, pens, stamps, stencils, printed papers, painted papers, printed images and more!
We will also touch on the use of the Art Journal as a method to support mental health for self-reflection and processing emotions.
At the end of this series, you will have an abundance of skills that build your creative confidence without the stress of making a “perfect” final product.
Need to miss a session? We are not able to provide partial refunds for missed sessions. However, where possible, we will hold materials used in missed sessions. All sessions will have independent work time that may allow catch-up time for missed sessions.

Explore the art of Nuno felting, a wet-felting technique that combines fabric and wool roving using water, soap, and friction to create a beautifully textured textile. With guidance from fiber artist Jodie Gerard, you’ll create your own lightweight scarf using 100% silk chiffon and merino wool roving. Choose from a wide variety of richly dyed wool, along with unique embellishments like sari silk and silk noils, to make your piece truly one-of-a-kind. Your finished scarf will measure approximately 12" x 54"—a beautiful, wearable piece of fiber art to take home and enjoy.

Spend an evening creating a whimsical ceramic whistle with veteran art educator Marcella Hunt. In this hands-on workshop, Marcella will introduce participants to the basics of hand-building with clay to create a functional whistle disguised as a one-of-a-kind creature straight from their imagination.
Participants are encouraged to return to the Studio Saturday, September 26 from 12 - 1:00 to learn about ceramic glazes, select glazes for their piece and apply. Can’t make it Saturday? No problem! Select glazes with Marcella’s help Friday night and she will finish your piece for you.
Finished whistles will be ready for pick up Monday, October 12.

Ceramic artist Ariana Alarcon brings us this unique mixed-media workshop where ceramics and fiber arts come together. You will begin with a pre-made ceramic loom, adding your own creative touch by painting and personalizing the clay before using it as the foundation for your fiber piece. From there, you’ll explore weaving with a variety of fibers and textures to create a one-of-a-kind work of art that blends color, clay and fiber in an unexpected way.
