Studio Series Adult Program

An 8-session mixed media series hosted by Syd Bastos with guest artists along the way. We will focus on playful exploration and experimentation to spark your creativity. In each session, a new technique will be introduced with time to practice before creating a page or spread in your Art Journal. Techniques will include drawing, painting, writing, doodling, collage, gel printing and sketching. We will use acrylic and watercolor paint, alcohol and distressed inks, pens, stamps, stencils, printed papers, painted papers, printed images and more!

We will also touch on the use of the Art Journal as a method to support mental health for self-reflection and processing emotions.

At the end of this series, you will have an abundance of skills that build your creative confidence without the stress of making a “perfect” final product.

Need to miss a session? We are not able to provide partial refunds for missed sessions. However, where possible, we will hold materials used in missed sessions. All sessions will have independent work time that may allow catch-up time for missed sessions. 

Building Creative Capacity is a 4-workshop series open to anyone who wants to become more comfortable, confident, and flexible in their creative thinking. No artistic experience is required. Local artists and creativity facilitators Leslie Boughton and Liz Honeysett will help you explore, strengthen, and better understand your own creative capacity.

Everyone has the capacity to develop creativity through intentional practice – it is not something reserved for professional artists or a lucky few. Like building strength at the gym, growing your creativity means learning how to exercise those skills and use them regularly. Through playful, low-pressure exercises drawn from the visual and performing arts, you’ll practice skills that support creativity in all areas of life: curiosity, experimentation, idea generation, improvisation, risk-taking, reflection, and moving through uncertainty.

Will you leave with a finished piece of art ready to hang on the wall? Probably not. You will leave with practical tools, experiences, and strategies you can keep using to strengthen your creativity long after the workshop ends.

Explore the ancient art of mosaic with Teaching Artists (and sisters) Leslie Boughton and Erin Marsh. Use brightly colored glass and found objects to create an original and unique interior mosaic (mosaics for exterior use require different adhesive and grout materials).

This introductory class focuses on creative design, drawing inspiration from mosaic art across cultures and time. With teacher support, you will create your own work of art from start to finish. Learn practical techniques including glass shaping and cutting, and how to produce different background styles.   

Basic wooden forms will be supplied, or you may bring an object from home to add your mosaic to. The maximum recommended size to complete within the class time frame is 10x10 inches.

Examples: frame for a picture or mirror, wooden tray, wooden coaster(s), vessel (vase, flower pot). Bring your favorite broken mug or collected glass (sea glass, marbles, etc.) to personalize your project. Bring images or photos that may inspire your creativity. 

In this Advanced Gelli Plate Printing workshop, we’ll push beyond the basics and explore new ways to build richer, more interesting surfaces. We’ll dig deeper into image transfers with techniques like back painting, collage layering, and making the most of those sometimes-tricky magazine transfers.

We’ll also bring in pastels, stamps, acrylic markers, and other mixed-media tools to add texture, detail, and personality to your work. We’ll experiment with different kinds of paper, play with layering and timing, and practice one of the hardest creative skills of all: knowing when to stop touching it and let it dry!

You’re welcome to bring your own collage papers, magazine images, or other materials you’d like to work into your prints.
